An Introduction to Phonics in KS1 and Lower KS2
Wednesday 27th March 2019, 1pm – 4pm
Aimed at Key Stage 1 Teachers, Key stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistants.
We will explore:
What phonics is and why we use it;
Sharing of our current experiences of phonics – what is working and how we need to move forward;
The phonics screening assessment requirements;
How we can link reading, writing and spelling to phonics;
Phonetic terminology and what it means;
Sharing of practical resources and activities with the opportunity to make your own;
A demonstration of a structured phonic lesson.
This course is aimed at developing a deeper understanding of phonics, as well as identifying a range of approaches to whole class teaching and small group intervention.
