Through a mix of input, demonstration, practice and discussion participants will explore the differences between coaching and mentoring and when each approach is the most appropriate to use.
Participants will gain understanding of the powerful impact which effective coaching and mentoring can have on the professional development and self-confidence of individuals at all levels in schools.
Key skills of self-management, high level listening and use of powerful questions will be addressed with plenty of opportunity to practise as both coach and coachee. Participants will leave with an understanding of a key coaching model and a toolkit of coaching questions to aid their Leadership practice.
Session 1: 9.30am prompt – Introductions and programme for the day
Session 2: Exploration of the differences between coaching and mentoring – when is each one most appropriate? Potential benefits?
Session 3: Skills required for effective coaches and mentors – and for coachees and mentees – roles and responsibilities
Session 4: The CLEAR model for coaching
Session 5: High level listening and use of powerful questions
Session 6: Demonstration and practice of each stage of CLEAR model
Session 7: Action planning.
