Moving into the Reception Class

Throughout their time in the school Nursery class the children will become increasingly familiar with the Reception staff through activities such as:-

  •  singing sessions
  •  story times
  •  assemblies and celebrations
  •  visits and shared activities

All Foundation Stage children will have the opportunity to take part in weekly assemblies led by the Nursery or Reception teachers.

They will be able to share stories and poems with their new teacher when they visit the class before they are due to start school full time. This will give them the chance to become familiar with their new teacher and classmates.

On the day of their visit the children will also be given the opportunity to stay for school lunch or have a packed lunch from home.

Children who do not attend the school Nursery will be invited to visit at the same time so that they too can become familiar with their new teacher and routines. They will also be offered a home visit by a member of the Foundation Stage Team.

The Head teacher will give all new parents a tour of the school prior to their child starting full time and this will usually coincide with their child’s visit into their new class.

Finally – We hope that the Nursery is the beginning of a happy

and meaningful school life here at St Peter’s.
