Leadership Skills for Middle Leaders Aimed at: Both experienced and new to role Year Team Leaders, Key Stage Leaders, SENCOs, Subject Leaders and Co-ordinators in Secondary, Primary and Special Schools
Through a mix of input and practical activity participants will have an opportunity to explore current challenges for Middle Leaders and the qualities and skills required to lead and sustain improvement effectively through the use of a range of leadership styles and interpersonal skills.
Participants will leave having individually targeted the development of critical leadership skills and created a robust action plan for success.
The course fee includes the cost of a highly useful workbook, published by Hay Group, which will build on learning and provide ongoing development and support in the workplace.
Session 1 – 9.30 am prompt - Exploring the current experience of Middle Leadership Session 2 – Skills and qualities required to lead and sustain effective Teams Session 3 – Practising key communication skills when meeting with individuals or teams Session 4- Self-analysis and identification of personal learning agenda Session 5– Developing coaching skills to raise motivation and drive improvement
In the time between days 1 and 2 participants will work on their learning agenda, practise new behaviours and gain feedback on leadership impact.
Day 2 9.15 am – Arrival and refreshments
Session 1 – 9.30am prompt - Review of self-directed learning and evaluation of personal Leadership impact Session 2 – Motivating and Holding others to account – how highly effective Leaders do this Session 3 - Sustaining personal resilience and optimism Session 4 - Creating an individualised action plan. To include critical skills of assertiveness, time management, prioritising, delegating, ‘being kind to self’
